🏆 Door County 70.3 Champion & New Course Record. It was a special experience to be able to race in a place I love and have made some of the best memories with my family. Having spent so much time in Egg Harbor at our Aunt and Uncle’s condo, this felt like a home race for me. For years I’ve run past the painted pavement for the run turn around and thought “I’d love to do this race someday.” Well that opportunity came and we made the best of it! Getting back on the race course after a rough result at Ironman CDA was just what I needed to test some changes and kick off training again. I was pushed hard by some of the best local triathletes who came hungry to perform. Thanks @eric.r.engel @aramypinho @speedygiuliano for keeping the pressure on! It was great to see so many familiar faces out on course and after the race. Our Midwest triathlon community of coaches and athletes truly is something special. Thank you @doorcountytriathlon for a great race, and making me feel like a 👑 for a day. My Crystal Lighthouse Trophy will be prominently displayed at our Aunt & Uncle’s Door County condo for years to come.
Ironman is hard. Ironman in over 100° is harder. Tactical mistakes, nutritional mistakes, and a failure to properly focus on the little details are what did me in on Sunday. During the build I was so focused on my physical fitness and my mental confidence, yet I blatantly ignored everything else in my control. As a coach, it’s embarrassing. As an athlete, it’s frustrating. A wasted opportunity. A hard lesson to learn.
The work isn’t done, it hasn’t even begun. That happens tomorrow!! #imcda #letsgo 📷 @narayanmahon
